Gemini Improv Class with Storytelling and Sound

“Once upon a time…”

Probably almost every story you know starts this way, more or less. “Once upon a time, there was something or someone. And every day, the same old thing happened. Until one day something changed, and then the poop really hit the fan…and that was just the beginning. Until FINALLY…”

You can deconstruct almost any story-line in Western literature or film and find this “story spine” inside it. (Go on. Try it.)  In this workshop, we will be learning to build on this spine to improvise stories as a group.

And because song is as ingrained in our souls as story, we will then improvise a capella music, listening to each other and using our voices and the percussion of our bodies to build compositions. (Google “Bobby McFerrin circle songs.” He’s a master.)

Finally, we will co-create a story with a score that we build in the moment.

We might make something funny, moving, sad, angry, silly…whatever we bring is ourselves and it’s good. And if nothing else, I’m pretty sure we’ll have fun.
